Capital District Blacksmith's Association - Business Meeting Minutes 10/03/2004
Members in Attendance:

Jack Connell
Daniel Crowther
Sarah Ritchie-Crowther
Aaron Silver
Jim Moran

Sarah opened the meeting with a discussion on procrastination, timeliness and scheduling. Sarah proposed a quarterly schedule be developed for the following:

  • Hammer-Ins
  • Demonstrations
  • Lectures
  • Newsletter Submission Deadlines
  • Newsletter Mailing Deadlines

- Everyone decided that these schedule were DEFINATELY needed.

- Dan suggested that the Newsletter mailing deadline be such that the newsletter could double as a meeting flier

- Sarah countered that the meeting schedule should be finalized enough in advance to meet the newsletter deadline instead.

- Quaterly calendar layout and planning ensued. See the Calendar page for results

Sarah indicated that working with Lee and Ruth Harvey CDBA is able to get a reduction on hotel rooms for CanIron 2005.

Aaron suggested specific ideas to increase member participation:

  • Large collaborative project that could be displayed for all to enjoy
  • "Iron Challenge" - An item or items made from a specific material or meet a handful specific criteria, but are otherwise open ended to allow each participant to express themselves uniquely.

- Sarah suggested that the collaborative project should be the design and manufacture of a CDBA sign or banner to be displayed multi-organizational blacksmith gatherings.

Jim suggested that CDBA engage in a "quid pro quo" with various historical sites. CDBA would offer to do blacksmithing demonstrations at their public events in exchange for meeting/hammer-in venues later on as needed..
