CDBA Meeting Minutes 06-06-2005

This meeting was held at Borders since Professor Javas wouldn’t seat our group of 5 without having received prior notification.

Age of Iron

  • Sarah asked Aaron to help in the Green Coal area. He replied that given his new work schedule he will assist there on Friday night for setup, Sat (will bring own equipment that day) & Sun (no equip)
  • Andy will not be available for the entire duration but has secured a group camp site for any member (up to 25 members at $59.50 – to be split evenly among the families/people that show up)
  • Aaron offered camping on his land (15 minutes away from Hancock) for next year.
  • Sarah questioned the rules regarding Friday setup, no
  • CDBA/Sarah will be heading up the cook out Saturday evening
  • Ron will email/mail flier describing duties at AoI; Members asked to volunteer for specific duties for a specific amount of time.
  • Secretary to contact Kivort Steel and Metal Supermarket for ¼” Square donation.
  • Safety requirement sign to made up.  (No open toed shoes, No shorts, Safety glasses must be worn, etc)

T-Shirts

  • Andy has ordered additional shirts in Burgundy w/Black letters, and Black w/Red letters
  • Aaron to check up with Andy regarding cost of new shirts and current balance.

Meetings

  • Sarah brought up the fact that the geographical location of the majority of the core group members has changed.
  • Aaron had no objection and was even willing to change the day if needed.
  • Jack thought a venue/date change made sense
  • Further discussion to finalize new location and date needed, but change authorized by officers and Core Group members

Events

  • Copake Ironworks event date finalized
    • Columbus Day weekend, specifically 10/09/2005
    • Ron to get particulars from Lee Harvey food, demo times, etc.
  • Ron to coordinate with Joe Merli about possible upcoming event sometime in July.
  • Doug DeLurey is working on lining up a pad lock demo in July at Stephen Bader & Co.
    • Maximum participants about 20 people
    • Same day and time as regular demos (Noon-4p or so on a Sunday)
    • Lock kit $10-$12
  • Oct 1st & 2nd Albany Rural Cemetary is looking to CDBA to do a demo
    • They have a smithy at the site.
    • Sarah indicated that given that they have a smithy perhaps they would be willing to trade a guaranteed blacksmithing demos when needed for a "home" for CDBA
    • Jack will contact them, see the smithy and make the offer to do a demo in exchange for a "home" for CDBA 
    • Ron to send Jack the Cemetary contact info.
  • Sarah would like to be sure that the public demos that CDBA does gains CDBA in some fashion. Especially if the group requesting the demo has paid employees or is financially stable.
  • Dan cautioned that we should take a hard look at the CDBA calendar with regard to the percentage of events that are demonstrations for educating the public vs those that are for educating and edifying CDBA members.
