Blacksmithing Class for 23 people (max)

Dear Blacksmiths -

I am reaching out to see if anyone in the nearby area has enough capacity to conduct a half-day blacksmithing course for 23 people (max). We could also break down the group into two separate days if need-be. I'm looking to have a team building event. I am a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Philips Healthcare (Latham). We do a lot of metal work here so I'm thinking this would be an awesome opportunity for my team to learn about the roots of metal working through blacksmithing. Please reach me at: nicholas.viscio@philips.com Thank you for your consideration of this. -Nick

Our July demo

no weld canister Damascus

Posted: Nov 30, -0001 6:00

Hello all! in an effort to pay more attention to this website, I thought I would recap our most recent CDBA meeting. The demonstration was Paul doing a canister Damascus billet without the use of any welding or power equipment. Fish hooks and 1084 powdered steel were stuffed into a 1 inch thin wall square tube, the end was folded over and the whole thing was heated to forge welding temperature. The tube was beaten into a solid billet of pattern welded steel (Damascus). The canister got a bit toasty in the forge, and despite using white out, the can welded to the steel. I will forge it out to bar stock on the power hammer, and bring it in for show and tell for the August meeting.

As of yet there has not been a volunteer to do the demo for the August meeting, but I will keep you all posted!

Adirondack Folk School possible

Would you like to have November meeting at the Folk School?

Posted: Nov 30, -0001 7:15 Pm

Steve Gurzler has offered to host the November CDBA meeting at the Adirondack Folk School. For those of you who aren't familiar with The Folk School, it is located in Lake Luzerne, NY. They have a very nice blacksmithing area, with multiple forging stations, and I have been informed, this area is now heated! It's roughly an hour or so drive from albany, but it will be worth it. Please let me know if there is interest in this, so I may inform Steve of our acceptance of his gracious offer!
